About Me

Obsessed with good food and finding joy in living well

I'm Marie - a food lover and nutritional therapist with a background in psychology.

 

Through working in the English National Health Service (NHS) for 4 years, helping individuals with depression and anxiety find their way back to good mental health, I realised that focusing on medication and psychology alone is not always enough. There are important links between the foods we eat, our lifestyle and mental health (read more about this here).

 

The times we live in are full of challenges (from your daily commute to the news, the pressures of social media and trying to make decisions about what to eat in an age of information overload). I will help you learn how to eat well and take good care of yourself despite all of this so that you can support your wellbeing whether you are feeling depressed, anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, ill or simply not at your best.

 

To help you do this I am combining my love of food, wellness and psychology to offer nutritional therapy with a focus on mental wellbeing.

I have a BSc in Psychology from the University of Bath, a PGCert degree in Low-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapies from UCL and a PGDip in Nutritional Therapy from the University of Worcester. I am currently finalising my master's thesis in order to complete my MSc in Nutritional Therapy at the University of Worcester.  

 

How Do I Work?

Living a healthy life is not just for the priviledged

I believe that eating well and taking good care of your physical and mental wellbeing should be a joy and not a chore. Our work together will focus on bringing the joy back into all the things you do to care for yourself - by finding out why they matter to you.

I won't be trying to convince you to follow any specific diets or to eat like me. Instead, I will spend time identifying the most recent (and reliable) research to help you move towards your goals and eat in a way that suits your body, your lifestyle and your emotional needs. 

Before your first session I will send you a questionnaire to complete, which will give me an understanding of your main difficulties, health history, current lifestyle and goals. This allows me to prepare a personalised first assessment for you. 

​Following your first session my work is to make tailored, research based recommendations for you in order to achieve the goals you set. In nutritional therapy there is no 'one size fits all' approach, and so I will look at your difficulties as a whole and make recommendations suited specifically to you.  The following sessions will be used to help you make changes. We will continuously adapt our approach as we learn more about your needs and difficulties throughout this journey.

It is really important that you are aware that nutritional therapy is not a 'quick fix'. I aim to help you make sustainable changes that you can maintain throughout your life (as long as they suit you), rather than quick changes that may lead to quick results that don't last. That means we will likely work together for at least a few months, and that the changes you see will start slowly, but are more likely to last.

I will provide you with recipes, handouts and session summaries to support you in remembering what we discussed during sessions and in implementing these changes. I incorporate my Low-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training into each session to support you in managing the changes and current difficulties.

I am currently based in London and Copenhagen, but I offer online therapy only. I use an online platform called zoom to offer video call sessions to all my clients. Zoom enables us to share our screens, notes and scribble things down together during the sessions. I will be able to accept new clients from early 2020.
